Weather

The weatherstone is speckled, meaning it is sprinkling. Two toads have gathered around the weatherstone, and once faces North, so the chance of rain for the next day is between 10% and 30%. A slug has been found on the closest tree to the weatherstone, so blistering heat can be expected for the next week. Students traveling outdoors should collect and offer pinecones to said slug until the heat fades.

Lost & Found

  • Found: A singular button in the shape of a toad. Oddly slimy to the touch. Found near the pond next to a pair of rainboots and half a muffin.

  • Lost: Umbrella that doesn't work, but it's quite sentimental and I'd like it back. Yellow with red ladybugs on it. May or may not scream when you try to open it.

  • Lost: My sanity. If room 708 South Corridor doesn't get it together and pipe down after 10 PM I will be pasting Everglue on your doorknobs. I will laugh while your hands are forever stuck to the knob and I will not feel sorry.

Gossip

Rooftop Serenades & Wobbly Knees

Early Thursday morning, students reported hearing a man singing on the roof during breakfast. Several herbed scones were dropped to the floor and students crowded round the windows to try and get a peek. Some swore they caught the tail-end of a red cape, or perhaps coat tails. Others spotted the gleaming strings of a lute! Regardless, the voice cascading from the rooftops sounded like silk and left many students swooning. The nurse on call claimed the affected students acted oddly the remainder of the day, needing constant redirection away from the rooftops. Her biggest concern, however? Wobbly knees.

"It's the telltale sign of The Woos," she sighed, "an old spell, I ain't seen it in a long time. Don't know who's castin' that round these parts, but it's downright forbidden it is!"

Anyone with information about the mysterious singing man is encouraged to report directly to Headmistress Hennenthorp.

Rumors

Peepers Creepers in the North Hall!

A new mystery has made itself right at home here in Grimbriar. In the North Hall, just past the portrait of Misses Mistle, you'll spot a hole in the wall at shoulder height. The stone has been carved away to reveal a space no larger than a deck of cards. Inside that hole? A singular eyeball. No, not just laying there, all wet and squelchy, but peeping out at you from the stone. Spotted by Mazel Pleck on her way to Advanced Potions entirely on accident, word soon spread throughout the school. Currently, the line to stare back at the mysterious eyeball wraps down the main stairs and into the entry hall. Students report that the eyeball mimics blinking patterns and cries if you insult it. Professors have been alerted.

"The eyeball is no cause for concern. It's likely one of the many enigmas of Grimbriar Academy," says Professor Brundell. "As always, we encourage students to use caution when interacting with strange things. Also, please stop insulting the eyeball. It's unwise to taunt the unknown, and not to mention rather rude."

Familiar Faces

Meet Ella Handerell, Wishing Whizkid of Grimbriar

If you'd had an eyelash brushed off your cheek this week and suddenly fell into a lucky stride, it's likely the work of Ella Handerell, a new student with a passion for wishes. Her chipper demeanor is hard to miss, and you'd be pressed to find a kinder soul in all of Grimbriar. Beyond her kindnes lies a curious habit that has left some students scratching their heads.

"I started collecting eyelashes at age five," Ella says, a brightness beginning to fill her eyes. "I was always told you could make a wish on them, so that's what I did!" Ella claims that every wish she's made on an eyelash has come true...the caveat? The wish has to include the owner of the eyelash. Ella's wishing habits are rather philanthropic.

"Well it would be rather selfish to wish for myself, don't you think?"

In a serendipitous moment of proof, she brushed a lash from my cheek, held it between her fingers, and made a silent wish. Suddenly, I recalled my forgotten password for my enchanted diary from 3rd grade.

"How could you know I forgot that?" I asked.

"I simply wished for you to recover something precious to you," Ella smiled.

Indeed I did. It seems Miss Ella Handerell has a knack for wishing magicks. Coincidence, or prodigy?
